COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Hewat AC supports the initiatives of creating awareness on Mental Health. Cape Mental Health was chosen as our beneficiary for race 2017.
VYGIESKRAAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME
Before COVID, Hewat Athletic Club’s base was at the Vygieskraal Stadium, close to an informal settlement. We established a Social Responsibility Committee who was responsible for arranging a social event at least once a year and when possible whereby we had a fun, social day with the residents, and in this way it was suggested to use athletics as an instrument whereby the Vygieskraal kids and youth could acquire some life skills to improve their self-esteem and to make them aware that there are favourable possibilities in life too. Marginalized kids are given the opportunity to take a long jump into a brighter future!
The Cape Town Festival of Running Event
The Cape Town Festival of Running event started in 1997, when the event was known as Hewat Cape Town 100 miler organized by Hewat Athletic club. The event happens in July every year.
CTFOR part sponsored by the City has since evolved into a 100km, 50km, 21km and relay event. All events starts on the Seapoint promenade. The 100km and 50km Ultra serves as a Qualifier for the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon.
The 2 day event offers runners different options of distances to choose from. Something for everyone. In addition to being a fun family event, the races are run through beautiful scenic routes. The event promotes healthy living and provides an opportunity for Capetonians from across the metro to test their mettle against participants from the rest of the country and abroad.
